A journey inspired by hope, fitness, and Canada.

Canadatrek was created in honour of Terry Fox and the spirit of his Marathon of Hope. The idea was to build a system that would let others share in a meaningful personal journey across Canada through exercise and measurable progress.

The story behind Canadatrek

In April 1980, Terry Fox began his Marathon of Hope to raise awareness and help bring an end to the suffering caused by cancer. His journey touched Canadians across the country, and although he was unable to finish, his courage and purpose left a lasting impact.

Canadatrek grew out of that inspiration. It was designed as a way for people to participate in a personal cross-Canada fitness journey, beginning on the west coast and progressing through distance-based activity goals.

1980s
The concept begins as a Visual Basic program, but the rapidly changing technology of the time makes it difficult to develop in the way originally envisioned.
Later phase
The project shifts into PDF documents, but that format still does not fully capture the broader interactive vision for Canadatrek.
2022 - 2025
After renewed analysis, planning, and research, the Canadatrek Exercise Companion System begins taking shape again.
2026
The Canadatrek Exercise Companion System has been fully redeveloped as a web application and is now available for public access.

What Canadatrek offers now

The Canadatrek Exercise Companion System is intended to give people access to a structured fitness journey with a meaningful Canadian theme. It connects exercise progress with distance milestones and allows participants to move through the country in a motivating, trackable way.
